Why do you enjoy your job?

So I work within the HR department at Schroders and work in the HR Generalist team ‘HR Direct team’ where all the assistants look after and complete all the administrative work for a specific area of the business. This could be Investment, Distribution etc. We are a tight nit team and we’re always helping each other out. We also have to the support the HR Advisors and HR Business Partners, I get involved in a lot of projects as well which changes the work slightly. I am about to move onto helping with the SMCR project/regime which I’m really looking forward to as it will further my knowledge of HR and the different sectors in it. I think the role I am in definitely brings out the best of my skills, so it challenges me which is always good to not be complacent, it motivates me to try new things and learn about new polices and processes etc. I am very organised and focused to complete the work to the best of my ability, this shows the passion I have to learn and to gain the experience I need to progress.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

I think the most challenging part would be managing and prioritising the workload and finding the happy balance. As I have to balance this with the traineeship work and exams also.

How did you get into your job?

I came into this role straight from Sixth Form, where I studied English, Politics and Sociology at A level. I was never 100% sure on what I wanted to do or what sector I wanted to be involved in. Investment20/20 gave me the opportunity to see what is out there, especially in the Financial Services industry, suddenly there were different roles and avenues to consider. Without Investment20/20 I may not have known about the vacancies and traineeships on offer.

What are your future aspirations?

I am not 100% sure what I would like to do after the traineeship, ideally I would like to be kept on at Schroders, but possibly move in to a different part of HR. I am not sure yet. I am happy with the role I am currently in.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

‘It has been challenging but worthwhile, an amazing opportunity.’
