Why do you enjoy your job?

My role involves working closely with all stakeholders within the business. It’s great for building relationships and I get a lot of exposure into how different departments work and what they require to be successful. I play a part in their success as I help to source what needs they may have and I’m always looking for ways to add value to the business, be it through genuine cost reduction and/or cost avoidance possibilities. The role is also building on my analysis and investigation skills as I deal with all of the businesses contracts and spend data and attempt to get useful insights out of it. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with clients by phone and face to face which has been great for my confidence and negotiation skills.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

Having not worked in the Procurement function before, the most challenging thing for me would have to be all the new phrases and terms I was being exposed to. This was especially hard during the first few months but like any other new role you eventually overcome this and get used to it. It’s important to ask questions whenever you need help or clarification and my colleagues at GAM Investments were always willing to help.

How did you get into your job?

I happened to find Investment20/20 by chance as I was searching for Asset Management firms on Google Maps where I happened to find one of their employers. It was perfect for me as I didn’t have any experience in the industry. My work experience consisted of mainly retail but I knew I wanted to make use of my Business Management degree and get into a role that challenged me mentally. If it wasn’t for their schemes, I wouldn’t have been introduced to GAM Investments. It was definitely worth all the applications, cover letters and interviews as they have helped me get my foot in the door of an Asset Management firm.

What are your future aspirations?

I’m currently studying for my CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) qualification. There are many levels to this but it would be great to achieve Chartered status at some point in the future. It will also be very complementary to my Business Management degree. I also hope to keep growing my skills and learning more about the industry which is constantly changing.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help, take advantage of any qualifications offered by your company and more importantly enjoy it.
