BMO Global Asset Management

Risk Analyst |
School/College Leaver

Why do you enjoy your job?

I enjoy working at BMO as they are such a friendly and welcoming team. I work within the Counterparty Risk team at BMO Global Asset Management where my main role is to support onboarding of funds with the approved FX and Deposits counterparties and managing all the required KYC and regulatory documents and associated internal and external queries. Key skills for my role includes effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders, prioritising work, and being efficient in MS Excel, MS Word and Outlook.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

When there is a high workload it can be quite hard to manage it all, but we always work as a team to get the job done. As I had no previous experience in an office environment, the terminology and work life was new to me.

How did you get into your job?

Before I started at BMO Global Asset Management, I attended college for 2 years, whilst I was there, I studied AAT Accounting Level 2 and 3. I have never been interested in going to University; I wanted to pursue a career in the financial industry up in London. I was applying for apprenticeships and jobs throughout my time at college; I had an interest in investment and found the Investment20/20 website.

Whilst I was studying at college, I was working at Sainsburys as a Trading assistant. My job role was reducing stock prices, maintaining stock control and answering customer enquiries.

What are your future aspirations?

My ambitions are to secure a permanent position within the Risk team at the end of my apprenticeship. I would like to gain professional qualifications such as the CISI or CFA. Even if I am not offered a permanent position Investment20/20 has given me invaluable experience and transferable skills that will help me in the future.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

Investment20/20 is a great opportunity for those who want to learn new skills and gain experience within a work place. Investment20/20 has helped me gain valuable transferable skills such as being organised in a challenging environment, prioritising work, effective internal and external communication, MS Office including Excel (i.e. VLOOKUP etc) and networking with all levels of employees and peers. I would highly recommend this experience to others.
