Why do you enjoy your job?
I thoroughly enjoy my job and it has been the best opportunity to kick start my career early. As I work in the Standard Life Aberdeen’s financial planning and advice business 1825, and as it was only founded in 2015, I find that my role in different projects is very exciting because of the variety of things to learn and the significant impact these projects have on 1825.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
The most challenging part of my job is to guide people through change and help them understand what it means for their role. I also find balancing my time between learning and working a challenge, but one which has helped me to improve my time management and ability to prioritise tasks.
How did you get into your job?
I started applying while I was in my last year of secondary school, as I felt that university wasn’t going to be a good use of my time and potential. I applied to various companies through Investment20/20 but came across failure very early on. Despite these setbacks, I learnt a great deal about being resilient and continued to apply for different roles in the hope of achieving success. Fortunately, after the summer, I passed SLA’s recruitment process and was offered the job. Over the last 4 months, the broad experience I have gained and the skills that I have both learned and improved on, serve as a testament to what the programme has provided for me in my young career. My story, and the many other success stories, demonstrates what the Investment20/20 programme can provide for school leavers.
What are your future aspirations?
My future aspirations are to continue exploring the industry and finding out what specific area interests me and suits my skillset. I find the industry very intriguing because of the breadth of opportunities there are and so I aim to get a permanent role at some point in the future.
How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?
Investment20/20 has undoubtedly been the “foot in the door” for my career.
