Why do you enjoy your job?

I work within the Compliance Team in the Wealth Management division of Schroders. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring and surveillance, reviewing and approving requests for staff personal account dealing, educating myself on regulation and changes and answering general queries. This role suits my skills well as coming from having done English Literature at University I am familiar with analysis and attention to detail, this role also helps me to exercise my interpersonal skills by building relationships with team members and colleagues alike.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

At first is was the financial jargon and putting it into context. Since studying towards the Investment Foundations exam sponsored by my firm this has become increasingly easier to contextualise and for me developing a better understanding about my role and industry, this has been challenging but something I have really enjoyed.

How did you get into your job?

I came into the industry from University. I studied English Literature at the University of Gloucestershire. Prior to going to University I took a gap year and worked at AXA Insurance as a claims advisor. Investment20/20 has helped me to get that crucial “foot in the door” into the industry and I’m glad an organisation like Investment20/20 exists as I don’t think I would have considered a career in the industry without their promotion of careers in the industry.

What are your future aspirations?

At the moment I don’t have a clear future plan. Although when I came out of University and into the industry I was certain that Compliance would be an area I’d enjoy, and it has been. However, since joining the firm in August I have been overwhelmed by the huge range of career options available which has definitely blurred my future plan slightly!

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

“Nobody’s better than you and you’re no better than anybody else” – be confident that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, and have self-confidence coming into this industry I felt intimidated by the wealth of intelligent and interesting people, but you also have something to give and be friendly – it goes a long way!
