Analyst Support Apprentice |
School/College Leaver

Why do you enjoy your job?

My role involves supporting two senior analysts covering the food and utilities sectors. I enjoy modelling the financial data whilst performing and understanding calculations which ultimately help the analyst give good advice to fund managers. As I progress further in my role, I look forward to getting more involved with the companies we analyse by listening to conference calls and attending company meetings with my managers.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

Analysts in our team use their own analytical techniques to analyse companies in their sectors. Since I work for two analysts, I am constantly being exposed to two very different analytical styles. This can be challenging as I am still learning about each sector, company and the financials reported throughout the year. However, I am able to use all the information I have been taught from my managers, courses and exam content to understand how all the information we look at has an effect on the bonds we hold.

How did you get into your job?

During my second year of A Levels I applied for an investment operations apprenticeship at M&G Investments*. Half way through the application process I was moved to the analyst support programme as I was better suited to this role. I passed three online tests, one video interview and three face-to-face interviews. I was offered the role before A Level Results Day and started working a week later.

What are your future aspirations?

Once I have passed the relevant qualifications on my apprentice scheme, I hope to roll off permanently in the corporate credit research team and become a junior fund manager assistant. I would also like to study for further qualifications during my time at M&G Investments.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

Investment20/20 has played a large role in my apprenticeship programme. Their courses are very good and help develop a wider understanding of the investment management industry which complements my apprentice scheme well. Investment20/20 is a great organisation committed to supporting young people in the investment management industry.
