Why do you enjoy your job?

Investment20/20 has given me the opportunity to work in one the world’s largest and respected universal banks. I work in the securities lending team at the market financing services. The securities lending industry is a very exciting industry that helps the efficiency of financial markets. This industry is also a relationship-based industry which again I find very stimulating and enjoyable that also pushes me out of my comfort zone continuously which is a key to success.

Moreover, the fast pace environment in a trading room means you will never get bored of your job. Also, I am very lucky to have a supportive and insightful team by my side to support my journey in the financial industry.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

I would say the most challenging part of the job is the flow of work that has to be managed and the multitasking skills that a trading-based role requires. In addition, the responsibility that lies with me and the possibility of financial loss adds to this challenge. BUT, these challenges are what make the job exciting and adrenaline filled.

How did you get into your job?

After completing my MSc in Banking and international finance, the next logical step for me was to go into the financial industry. Considering the level of competition in this industry and my lack of experience in this industry made my aspiration to work in this exciting industry more challenging but thanks to Investment20/20 I was able to land my first full-time job at a multinational bank, which is a dream for most if not all students of finance.

What are your future aspirations?

In the 12 months I am in this programme I want to learn as much as possible about this industry and meet new people in the industry to grow my network. Also, the Investment20/20 events provide a great opportunity for me to do both of the above-learn and network.

In the Longer run I would like to explore my options within the asset management industry or move into corporate banking and focus on trade financing.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

It has been an exciting ride, filled with challenges and opportunities. And on a final note, in order to succeed anywhere in life especially in this industry, it is all about discipline and secondly the harder you work, the luckier you become!
