Why do you enjoy your job?

One of the main reasons I enjoy my job is the people I work with on a day-to-day basis. This especially helped when I first joined the team as I was welcomed as soon as I stepped in the door. My team are also very supportive when I require help on certain tasks. I believe the people that work in Standard Life make a huge difference to how much I enjoy the role.

Another reason I like my job is the department I work within. I work in Disaster Recovery. Since joining Standard Life Aberdeen, I have found Disaster Recovery fascinating. Every day is different and I am constantly gaining experience and learning key skills. I now have the opportunity to manage my own Disaster Recovery Events which shows just how much the team has taught me.

Another reason I like my job is the office I work in. Although this might not seem a big thing I believe the space I work in crucial. Dundas House is open and modern. It’s easy to communicate with everyone and there is small breakout areas for meetings.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

The thing I found most challenging when I first joined was the transition from leaving school to the world of work. However, this transition was made easy as I settled into my new role very quickly.

How did you get into your job?

I applied for this Apprenticeship straight after school. I knew university wasn’t right for me as I wanted to get into the world of work early and gain experience. Whilst I was researching I came across the Investment20/20 Programme. I knew this was a great opportunity as not only was it providing a qualification whilst working, it was also with an organisation full of opportunities. I knew this was the perfect first step for my career.

What are your future aspirations?

My future aspirations is to gain the current qualification I’m working towards and continue developing in my current role within Disaster Recovery. In the future I also want to study for more qualifications whilst also working. My long term goal is to stay within Standard Life as I believe it is an excellent organisation to work for.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

The Investment20/20 experience so far has been full of opportunities. Since starting I have had a number training sessions which has really helped me settle in to the workplace. In 2020 they have a lot planned which I’m really excited about. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone leaving school.
