Why do you enjoy your job?
My job role fits within the multi asset portfolio management team who work within the M&G treasury and investment team. My daily job role consists of looking at the different portfolios we run to make sure they are in line with their benchmarks. With cash flows coming in and out of portfolios each day it causes them to move away from their benchmarks, meaning we must trade to bring them back in line. This along with the trading cut of times means I have been able to use and develop my organisation skills to make sure everything is done quickly and efficiently.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
The most challenging aspect of my role is to know what is best to do based on market movements and portfolio cashflows. Cashflows in and out of the portfolios cause them to move further or closer to their targets meaning we need to trade to bring them back inline. However, sometimes market movements mean it is better if we don’t trade. I’ve found this situation the most challenging aspect of my job role as it is hard to make the decision on what to do. Although it can be difficult, I’ve also found it interesting as you can see different market movements and how they affect the portfolios.
How did you get into your job?
At sixth form I studied, dance, sociology and BTEC science which all gave me a range of different skills and knowledge, however I knew I wanted to work in the investment industry as it was something I found interesting. I knew I didn’t want to go to university but instead wanted to get a job where I could also gain a qualification.
Investment20/20 have been supportive the whole way through my apprenticeship with all the insight days and training events they have offered. It has also been a great way to interact with other apprentices within similar fields of work.
What are your future aspirations?
I hope to after my apprenticeship continue in the investment industry, learning and developing my skills more for the future.
