Why do you enjoy your job?

My job title is Product Analyst, or Fund Analyst. I produce a report every month using Excel macro formulas to calculate the performance for each of our funds. I am also currently working as “Project Manager” for a Private Equity fund launch. For this role I hold meetings with various departments including the fund manager, to ensure deadlines are met and actions completed. This requires communication skills and having the ability to form relationships with individuals, both fundamental to the success of the launch, and I believe they are key skills that I have.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

As a perfectionist I like to show that I can do things without help. However, since starting my job I have learnt that it’s better to admit you can’t do something and ask for help. I work in a very supportive environment, so this is where I have been able to learn best.

How did you get into your job?

I had a place at Sussex University to study Economics, however a few months before my A Levels I discovered this direct route into the asset management industry which I have always dreamed of working in, and then deferred my university place.

What are your future aspirations?

My future aspirations are to become a trader or move up the ranks in the job that I am currently sitting in – it gives a good grounding to the industry and allows me to see the whole process of a fund launch’s with exposure to all the different departments.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

I couldn’t say a bad word about Investment20/20. Firstly, I found the regular vacancy email posts very effective and helpful. After starting at Aberdeen, Investment20/20 has provided regular workshops on a wide range of topics. My favourite was a talk by an ex-trader from Barclays where we went through a real trade simulation. This was a highlight for me as my long-term goal is to become a trader. The Investment20/20 courses really help our professional development, and the social life they open up is key to our success in the industry due to the relationships and connections we build.
