Why do you enjoy your job?

I enjoy working in a team to solve tricky problems that occur on a daily basis within our HR systems. I may be doing one task one day and an entirely different one the next. Technology is also something I’ve been interested in for some time, both professionally and in my spare time. I’m constantly picking up new skills and even surprising myself with what I am able to grasp, such as now writing my own programming scripts on Excel. Finally, being able to network with so many people in the business is probably the most enjoyable aspect for me.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

Attention to detail is integral to the data analyst role regardless of industry. Understanding that two problems which look identical may have completely different solutions was something that took me a while to get my head around. The formulas we use in some spreadsheets can also look a bit daunting at first but it’s important not to panic and to break each one down step by step.

How did you get into your job?

After studying Maths, Economics and Drama A Levels at college, I worked for a year. The apprenticeship opportunity caught my eye as I love the idea of learning practically on the job at the same time as earning.

What are your future aspirations?

At the moment, I wouldn’t say I know my future aspirations 100% but I think I’d like to stay in finance as it’s something I have a passion for and the roles within the industry are endless. I am currently working within HR but data analysts operate all over the business and the skills are transferrable without a doubt.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

My Investment20/20 experience has been nothing but positive so far. I am regularly invited to networking events, insight days and other training classes which have made me feel comfortable and at ease with my new surroundings. The training days in particular are very informative and helpful. Investment20/20 brings all the apprentices together from different firms in the City which helps us all to network and support each other if for example we’re looking for advice on a similar situation or topic.
