Why do you enjoy your job?

Since joining the AlphaGen Hedge Fund team in late August 2013, I have provided research and support to distribution staff and fund managers and attended numerous client meetings, as well as carrying out my daily reporting role. I have run an amateur investment portfolio since the age of 16 and the scheme has provided the first step along the way to fulfilling my dream of one day becoming a professional investor.

How did you get into your job?

The Investment20/20 scheme gave me an opportunity I couldn’t get anywhere else, to join a global asset management firm without a degree. I took an alternative route into the City – instead of university and then a graduate programme, I went straight into the world of finance, working at LV= prior to joining Janus Henderson Global Investors. I knew leaving school and turning my back on university was a high risk route, but with a CV full of work experience and a proven interest in the stock markets, the Investment20/20 initiative provided me the help I needed to get my foot on the ladder.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

Investment20/20 provides a fantastic framework for a far wider range of aspiring financiers than your usual Russell Group graduate – it looks further afield than economics degrees from the top universities, instead taking into consideration people that may not have a degree, but have other skills to offer.
