Why do you enjoy your job?

My job involves rotating around the different functions within the finance teams and I’ve really enjoyed this so far because it has allowed me to gain a wide range of experience and knowledge. I have worked within accounts payable, accounts receivable, management accounts and the budgeting and financial analysis team. This wide exposure has allowed me to understand what area of finance I would like to continue learning in and what specific career path I should follow.

My role allows me to become exposed to different parts of the business and I have therefore been able to use a range of skills from communication, team work and project work.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

The most challenging part of my job was adapting to the business environment and systems and understanding the frequently used abbreviations and business jargons. However, the teams are very understanding and are always willing to explain further or to answer any questions. This allows you to learn and adapt very quickly and begin using this terminology more frequently.

How did you get into your job?

I got my job through attending Investment20/20 events throughout year 13 that were introduced via my sixth form. These events allowed me to explore the asset management industry and what particular direction I wanted to take my career. I applied for my current job through the Investment20/20 website, which had a large range of jobs to choose from, with different companies across different areas of the asset management business. However, I did encounter a lot of setbacks along the way and I applied for lots of jobs, taking part in many applications, online tests and varying type’s interviews. This can be quite disheartening, but it’s important to remember that you will find the right job for you.

What are your future aspirations?

I aspire to develop within myself as well as my knowledge and experience within the industry. I would like to become a chartered accountant, whilst continuing to learn and develop throughout my whole career.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

My Investment20/20 experience has provided me with opportunities to learn and grow, whilst supporting me through my first year of work. The connection through the scheme not only allows you to network within your place of work, but it also allows you to build connections throughout the whole industry with people completing a similar job role to yourself.
