Why do you enjoy your job?

Working in the Onboarding team has given me great exposure to the business as I come into contact with lots of different teams ranging from front-office investment desks to back-office ops. My team’s responsibilities cover a range of topics which means that my work is constantly varied and I’m not sat doing the same thing every day.

Schroders as a whole has had a huge impact on how I’ve found my first year in the Investment Management industry. It has not been daunting or intimidating in the slightest. I’ve found myself in a supportive environment where you are encouraged to try everything and explore what it is that you like and are good at.

I also enjoy the fact that I’ve been thrown in the deep end from the very start. The amount of responsibility that I’ve been given from the outset has made me a valuable member of the team. I don’t feel like a trainee anymore!

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

JARGON! When I first started it seemed like people in this industry spoke another language. There’s an acronym for everything. Don’t be afraid to ask if you’re unsure, you don’t want to be confusing your LDIs from your LEIs.

You certainly adapt to the language that is used and by putting it into practice every day it soon becomes second nature.

How did you get into your job?

I came in as a graduate having studied Biomedical Science at university.

I realised whilst at university that I didn’t want to work in a lab or go down one of the other ‘typical’ routes that biomed students do.

I heard about the Investment20/20 scheme and it seemed like a really great way to get my foot in the door in the Investment Management industry. The fact that it doesn’t matter what your educational background is was a bonus – I never thought from doing a biomed degree that I’d be working in the financial services sector but here I am!

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

Insightful and Fun!

I’ve had such a great time learning new things and meeting new people and the Investment20/20 scheme gives you the best platform to do both.
