Why do you enjoy your job?

I enjoy working as part of a team where I am viewed as a colleague and not a trainee, and where my opinion is taken into account and not overlooked. I am happy that I learn something new every day and there are constantly opportunities to progress skills through learning courses.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

As with any job, some daily routines can be repetitive. I would welcome more opportunity to learn about other areas of the business outside of my department.

How did you get into your job?

I completed an HND in sports fitness and exercise in summer 2015, after which I worked full time as a waiter in an Italian restaurant and also part time as a personal trainer. I decided I wanted to get into a job with more opportunity to progress so I secured a job with Standard Life Group* in a telephone team for nine months, then made the internal move to Standard Life Investments as part of the Investment20/20 programme. The programme has helped my career by helping me get my foot in the door of a well-respected company I might not otherwise have been able to.

What are your future aspirations?

I want to keep progressing within the company; I don’t have an exact career path or plan as I am trying to keep all options open.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

I have really enjoyed the experience so far and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get into investments.
