Why do you enjoy your job?
I have enjoyed my time at Aberdeen and credit this to the people I have been working with. They have encouraged and guided me throughout the process. I am constantly learning and this programme has given me an invaluable understanding of the finance and asset management industry. I have been included in client meetings through to investment briefings which have given me a good insight into how the industry operates. My role has also given me opportunities to try different things and collaborate with almost every part of the business which has really been beneficial.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
There have been a few challenges that I have had to overcome during my time with the company. One of the main challenges that I have had to overcome is the ever developing industry jargon of which it would seem a new acronym for something seems to be a regular thing. Over time this has become easier and through experience it has now become an everyday vocabulary and is second nature.
How did you get into your job?
After leaving college I spent a short time working in the scientific industry however, I decided that this was not where I wanted to be and would rather work within the financial industry.
I began to research various areas and came across the Investment20/20 website. I was lucky enough to find a role that I thought would give me a good starting place to gain some knowledge of the industry and following my interview was offered the place.
Throughout my placement I have been well supported by Aberdeen, my team and Investment20/20. I have taken part in both internal and external training, insight days and social events.
How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?
The Investment20/20 programme is an amazing programme for anyone looking to start a career in finance, whether you’re a graduate, school/college leaver or looking for a gap year placement. I can’t rate the Investment20/20 programme enough. I have been surrounded by good people who have always provided support and knowledge and have made me feel part of their team throughout my time on the Investment20/20 programme.
