Why do you enjoy your job?

As a hedge fund analyst within the Alternatives Investment Solutions team, my role involves hedge fund research, hedge fund strategy analysis and hedge fund performance analysis. Consequently, I’m constantly keeping up to date with market movements, monitoring the firm’s invested funds and seeking out funds that could potentially add alpha to clients’ portfolios. The most interesting parts of my job are both the relationship aspect (in terms of speaking and meeting with some of the most sought after investment professionals in the financial world) and the analytical aspect (applying both my qualitative and quantitative skills to make informed decisions).

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

More exams – Nearly an IMC (Investment Management Certificate) holder, I’ve been challenged with finding a balance between work and study. However, I’ve enjoyed the learning process and building on my existing financial knowledge. Following the completion of the IMC, I intend on completing the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) exams. Whilst not an easy feat, I believe the knowledge afforded will be worth both the time and effort expended.

How did you get into your job?

Although I graduated from Imperial College London with an MEng degree, I have always had a much stronger leaning towards investing. Fortunately, with my university centred in London, I was provided immediate exposure to the financial industry which I was able to capitalise on this through networking events and insight programmes. The Investment20/20 scheme however, presented a unique opportunity into the industry as it was geared more towards non-finance graduates.

What are your future aspirations?

I intend on continuing down my current path; eventually, managing my investment portfolio.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

It has been eclectic.
