Why do you enjoy your job?

I’ve always been interested in journalism and economics, my job allows me to combine both of these things and really experience the back end of both industries as well as explore the fundamental elements of communication with a creative license. It was nice to be able to enter the industry at such a young age with other likeminded trainees, meaning that I didn’t feel like I was entering the big city alone!

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

The most challenging element of my job is learning to ask questions and pick things up in such a fast paced world. Sometimes it can feel like everyone around you is too busy or too important to answer your questions, but once you get the confidence to ask for help, you find that the quality of your work becomes so much better.

How did you get into your job?

I finished school at 18 and within a few months I was working at Schroders! Whilst doing my A levels I became very uninspired by the idea of university and wanted to get some on the job experience, to really find out what I wanted to do. I entered a lovely team whose areas span from International PR to Internal Communications and Social Media. This has really given me the chance to try out many different areas of the industry over the time that I have been here, helping me to establish what I am good at and what I really like as well as the things that I am not so good at. These are the things that will help me as my career progresses.

What are your future aspirations?

Having worked at Schroders for almost 6 months, this industry has really inspired me, and my plans are to try and develop a career in PR, Internal communications or even to venture into something a bit different, such as analytics.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

My Investment20/20 experience has been fantastic in terms of the training I have received, the people I have been lucky enough to meet and the responsibility I have been lucky enough to have had given to me. After coming straight from school I feel that I have been allowed to mature momentous amounts, whilst being treated as an adult (and earning a fairly decent wage!). I have made amazing friends with the other Investment20/20 trainees who all share the same joy as I do, and I would recommend the Investment20/20 scheme to anyone looking to enter the city.
