Why do you enjoy your job?
My role within Legal & General Investment Management’s Compliance Monitoring team involves conducting a variety of surveillance tests, processing personal account dealings and providing support to the central and wider compliance team.
As well as conducting the tests, I am given the opportunity to create and enhance them which makes working in compliance further interesting and enables me to learn further about the organisation’s policies and develop my interpersonal skills.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
Having had no prior exposure to investment management has made it difficult to understand some of the terminology employed in the industry. In addition, this has made it more challenging to discover how the investment management industry operates, in particular how each department functions within the business. However, by assisting the compliance managers with their reviews, I am able to grow my knowledge on the different departments within the investment management industry.
How did you get into your job?
In July 2016, I completed a three year degree course in economics at City University London, attaining a 2.1 BSc (Hons). Having had a brief insight into compliance through my work experience at Axco Insurance Information Services, I began searching for graduate jobs in the areas of risk and compliance on various job websites. I also applied to many firms through the Investment2020 website, and joined Legal and General Investment Management in February 2017 after successfully completing an online application and two interviews.
What are your future aspirations?
I aspire to continue developing both personally and professionally which I believe I can achieve with the opportunities offered both at this organisation and the Investment20/20 scheme.
How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?
The Investment20/20 experience is invaluable. It offers many different opportunities for gaining experience in the financial industry from industry events to mentoring students at secondary school about finance.
