Why do you enjoy your job?
I am part of the Fund Manager Liaison Team (FMLT) which manages the indirect (non-contractual) relationships that BNP Paribas Security Services has with the asset managers who have been appointed by our clients (asset owners). This role has challenged me to hone my communication skills in order to add value to the company as a whole. Being a part of FMLT has been especially advantageous as I am often in meetings with subject matter experts, who in turn broaden my knowledge of the business and expose me to several business lines in the company. My inquisitive nature drives me to keep learning and also to keep up with regulatory changes – which is especially useful in this industry!
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
As a trainee, I regularly interact with senior colleagues who have years of experience. It can sometimes be a challenge to not be discouraged from actively participating in meetings. Time allows you to grow in confidence though and realise that you are not expected to be an expert.
How did you get into your job?
I graduated from Kingston University London with a degree in Pharmaceutical Science, however I wasn’t keen on that industry as it lacked challenge for me and was notoriously slow-paced. I did a trading internship and grasped the opportunity Investment20/20 presented when my manager recommended signing up to the website.
What are your future aspirations?
I would love to stay with BNP Paribas – the culture is an inexplicably special one. Moving into my second rotation, I hope to work within Market and Financing Services (MFS) where I can really broaden my knowledge of financial markets. As my career progresses, I believe a career built within MFS would be a dream!
How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?
Investment20/20 is at the heart of diversity and inclusion. I personally feel obliged to make as many young people as possible aware of the options and flexibility this scheme provides.
