Why do you enjoy your job?

Legg Mason has an amazing work culture and great people working for them, which makes it a very enjoyable work environment.

Our team helps support the distribution side of the business so we work closely with the Sales team in particular. Through looking at both internal and external data we provide reports and insights that help the sales team sell to our clients and keep them informed. We also partner with other departments like Marketing, for example analysing how successful a marketing campaign has been through looking at flows following an event.

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

Finding time to discover new ways in which I can add value to the Distribution team. A large part of my job involves maintaining and updating our data which can be quite time consuming, but it has taught me to work efficiently and to be innovative in improving certain processes, giving me more time to look into creating new reports and getting insights from analysing our data.

How did you get into your job?

I studied Biomedical Engineering but I had a few modules in Finance and Financial Management which sparked my interest in the industry. Part of what I enjoyed about my course was analysing data from practical experiments and figuring out what it meant; I also liked using the technical skills it taught me such as how to code so I spent some time developing those skills after uni. Once I found out about an Internship in the data analytics team at Legg Mason, I immediately applied for it and was fortunate enough to get it. I did not have any prior experience in the industry so Investment20/20 has been very helpful in improving my understanding of the Asset management industry.

What are your future aspirations?

I am ultimately interested in getting into data science, the combination of technical skills, statistical expertise and business knowledge required for the role is very appealing to me. Working at Legg Mason and attending Investment20/20 events is helping with the industry knowledge part. In my own time I am completing online courses to help with the technical skills and statistics knowledge and looking to use them in my job wherever I can.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

I have had a fantastic experience with Investment20/20, I have learned a lot and met a lot of great people
