By participating in Investment20/20 workshops in education providers and in workplace visits on employer premises, speakers agree to adhere to the Investment20/20 Speaker Conduct Agreement below.

We all have a responsibility to take an active role in safeguarding. It is important to us that speakers who accompany us on visits and take part in workplace visits feel comfortable and confident in their role as a speaker.

The safeguarding guidelines and policy are in place to ensure that all individuals understand how best to keep young people safe. It is important to be familiar with our Safeguarding Policy: https://www.investment2020.org.uk/safeguarding-policy. We also recommend that speakers refer to the NSPCC website for information on types of abuse: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/what-is-child-abuse/types-of-abuse/. Please note that for both workplace visits and outreach visits:

The provider (school, college, university) has been required to complete a code of conduct where they agree to be responsible for student safeguarding and welfare.

Safeguarding remains the responsibility of the school/college/university however, anyone involved in the activities has the responsibility to adhere to best practice guidance as outline in the safeguarding policy.

As the activity takes place on the premises of the provider and/or in the presence of a teacher/staff member, representatives from employers will not be DBS checked. Therefore, the school/college/university will implement, should they wish, their own process/guidelines for ensuring safeguarding practice.

The role of the speaker

The role of the speaker is to give information rather than advice. Please be clear that you are not offering advice, and just sharing your own career journey.

Young people in school, college and university will have their own aspirations about their next steps and future career ideas. Please give a positive response to all routes of progression, university, apprenticeships, and the Investment20/20 trainee programme.

Please provide an overview of your career journey and current role. Provide some insight to the skills that you use in your job.

Please refrain from sharing anything personal that is not career related.

Please be aware of the language and words that you use (e.g., please use inclusive language) and do not share any inappropriate career experiences. Please always refer to Investment20/20 for advice if you are unsure on appropriateness of content.

When delivering virtually, it is important that speakers consider their background. Volunteers should, where possible depending on the virtual platform used, blur their background, or use a corporate backdrop. Please remove any ‘personal’ items from your background, which may include photos of family/friends, pictures which may be inappropriate, and personal details. Please also ensure your email address is not displayed on the screen and switch off notifications.

Do not search out contact with students after the session.

Do not offer or arrange to meet up with students outside of the event.

Do not provide students with your contact details and do not ask student for their contact details. Should students have further questions please direct them to either Investment20/20 or your general HR contact.

If a student emails you following the session do not reply to them. You must forward the email to your HR contact who will respond to them or forward the email to Investment20/20.

Do not accept requests to connect on any social media platforms with students related to the workshop. This includes LinkedIn. Do not attempt to connect with students on any social media platform.

Do not take photos of the students.

Do not stay behind and be in a room by yourself with a student. If everyone else is leaving the room and you are answering questions, please ask a member of the school/college to remain with you. A member of the school/college/university team needs to be always present.

Investment20/20 will always be there to provide support in answering questions and fill in any gaps in information.

Personal safety when visiting a school/college/university for an outreach visit with Investment20/20

If you are visiting a school/college/university, please prepare for your visit, and make sure that you have in place the appropriate safeguards as you are travelling to somewhere that is not your office.  We recommend that you:

Share details of the event with your line manager so that they approve your involvement and know where you are. Forward the meeting planner as it has the details of the location of the school/college/university that you are visiting with us.

Provide us with your contact number that we can reach you on the day.

Take a note of the contact number of the Investment20/20 representative who is attending with you on the day.

Plan your route to the venue, taking account of the safest way to get from any public transport stops to the venue.

Please remember that if you do not feel it is safe to progress to the venue then please text or call the Investment20/20 representative and return to your office/home. We will let them know that you are going back to the office/home.

We will keep your HR informed of any concern of personal safety.
