Junior Investment Operations Analyst
Why do you enjoy your job?
I work within a team whose purpose it is to provide operational support to the local investment teams. A few of my responsibilities include incident investigation & reporting, assisting with ad hoc queries and fund overdraft monitoring. Coming from a Chemistry background, I have highly enjoyed the technical and analytical nature of this role and feel that I have been able to utilise my strengths. I have also had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the asset management industry, develop numerous skills and work with a variety of departments, which I am highly appreciative of.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
Due to the considerable ad hoc component of my role, there is great variety in my work, and I am constantly learning and adapting to different situations. This can be challenging but is also highly rewarding and one of my favourite aspects of the job. I have felt myself gaining confidence and becoming more valuable to the team throughout which is really motivating.
How did you get into your job?
I graduated with a Masters in Chemistry, which included a year in the chemical industry. Although I enjoyed the technical, analytical and problem-solving aspects of my degree, I was not interested in pursuing a career in this field. I was initially unsure of which industry would be a good fit for me, but I was keen to retain a technical element in my career. As such, I had been researching the asset management industry, a highly technical industry with lots of opportunities for self-development. The Investment20/20 scheme looked like a great way into this industry with lots of training opportunities. The Investment Operations role at Invesco matched the work environment I had been looking for, had great variety in its work and had opportunities to work with people from different departments. After having an interview for the role, my enthusiasm was confirmed.
What are your future aspirations?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Investment Operations team, and I am eager to build my career within this department. Continuous learning and self-improvement are a key focus for me, and I am hoping to complete some industry specific qualifications to expand my knowledge and become more valuable to my team.
How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?
Investment20/20 is a great way to get into the asset management industry, gain access to exceptional industry-specific training and learn from a variety of people with different roles and backgrounds.
