George Walder

Schroders

Fund Oversight Trainee

School Leaver

Why do you enjoy your job?

I enjoy my job. From the start I was given a lot of responsibilities that made me feel like I added value to the team and the business. I’ve learnt so much from the people around me in such a short space of time. I never expected a trainee role to be so action packed!

What is the most challenging thing about your job?

The most challenging thing about my job is that I’ve been put into a team that has recently been created. Meaning there are gaps of knowledge and sometimes it’s difficult to find the right person to help me.

How did you get into your job?

I left school with A Levels looking to break into the finance industry. After being unsuccessful in some applications, I settled for working in an administrative role, within a psychometric testing company. I decided I would stay there for 2 years to pad out my CV and then re-apply for the roles I was not accepted into. Two years later, I’ve achieved my goal. I am working for a well respected FTSE 100 company within the finance industry.

What are your future aspirations?

I’m happy with how my career has started off. The knowledge I’ve accumulated and the foundations I have built will aid me to push into whatever career path I choose to follow. I am currently wanting to work in sales but at the moment I’m happy to see what Schroders has got planned for me.

How would you sum up your Investment20/20 experience?

Fulfilling, enjoyable & a good opportunity to meet likeminded people.
