I work closely with the marketing operations, digital marketing, channel marketing, sales and PR departments. I am interested in finance and law, and my job allows me to deal with confidential information and contracts, and negotiate how funds can be used effectively across departments. I also use social media and programmes such as photoshop as a part of my daily job.
It is a challenge learning how to use new systems, especially as they get updated very often. Learning to remember and use technical jargon when conversing with other internal members can also be challenging. As someone who has always worked better individually, socialising and working as a team has proved to be the most challenging part of my job.
After GCSEs I completed a one-year apprenticeship as a recruitment consultant before carrying on to ‘A’ levels at college. I got a place at university but decided instead to do an apprenticeship/school leaver scheme. Investment20/20 has helped reaffirm that finance is the industry I would like to remain in for a long time. My company has given me the opportunity to rotate around many departments and although it hasn’t confirmed yet where I would like to specialise, I can see which roles are not so well suited to me.
The scheme has certainly lived up to my expectations. More importantly, as a woman of colour, the Investment20/20 Aviva Investors experience has proved to be a positive one, and a breath of fresh air. I truly believe both companies recruit individuals solely based on passion and skill set. Nothing more, nothing less.
